The responsibilities of the Staff Accountant include preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, you will have charge over many aspects of internal reporting. You will also participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and look over schedules for the reporting processes. An involved position, you will be producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. The organization offering this multi-faceted short-term contract / temporary opportunity is based in the Washington, District of Columbia region, and provides a terrific work environment where effort is rewarded.
Your responsibilities
- Aid in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
- Produce complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
- Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner
- Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management
- Partake in annual closing processes
- Take part in various department-wide initiatives
- Maintain fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
- Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules
- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
- Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision
Requirements - Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines
- Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment
- Current and relevant ERP system experience
- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
- 1+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
- Spreadsheet and database capabilities
- Quality experience with SAP
- General familiarity with Oracle
- Accounts Receivable (AR) experience preferred
- Journal entries experience highly desired
- Comprehensive knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP)
- Well-founded grasp of NetSuite
- Proficiency in bank reconciliations
- Proven knowledge of month end closings
- General ledger experience
- Practical knowledge of QuickBooks
- Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
- Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills
