Located in the Alexandria, Virginia area, this long-term contract / temporary position is an engaging, multi-faceted opportunity where hard work is rewarded. Responsibilities held by the Staff Accountant include the preparation of monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. This position will require a time commitment, since it produces Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. During the monthly close, you will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting. In addition, your responsibilities include communicating with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, playing an active role in compliance, and reviewing schedules for the reporting processes.

Your responsibilities

- Support capital lease and monthly payment schedules

- Partake in annual closing processes

- Maintain intricate journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

- Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

- Participate in various initiatives spanning multiple departments

- Offer descriptions of a large number of financial data and communicate insights in a useful and understandable manner

- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed

- Take part the in implementation and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP

- Carry out month end close, journal entries, without supervision

- Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management

Requirements

- Excellent analytical, quantitative and social skills

- Competent with spreadsheets and databases

- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment

- Knowledge of Accounts Receivable (AR)

- Comprehensive knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP)

- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

- Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines

- Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases

- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

- Mature organizational, written and verbal communication skills

- Proficient in ERP systems

- High attention to detail and possesses excellent organizational and writing skills

- Recent and relevant accounting experience
