This is career-building opportunity is located in the Hanover, Maryland region and offered on a long-term contract / temporary to hire basis. In this role, the Staff Accountant is in charge of preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. The majority of time spent will be dedicated to producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. You'll also have responsibility over various aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. You'll also be involved in compliance, communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes.

Your responsibilities in this role

- Complete month end close, journal entries, without supervision

- Assist in monthly financial close workbook preparation, including annual closing process

- Keep up fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

- Manage capital lease and monthly payment schedules

- Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner

- Manage the design and creation of balance sheet analysis and communicate reports to management

- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested

- Aid in implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

- Maintain intricate journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

- Be a part of various initiatives spanning multiple departments

Requirements

- 2+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

- Proficient in ERP systems

- Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

- Competent with spreadsheets and databases

- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

- Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment

- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel

- Year end closings experience

- Solid understanding of general ledger

- Deep understanding of month end closings

- Experience with auditing

- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations

- Adeptness in journal entries

- General familiarity with Excel Formulas

- Accounting Entries experience preferred

- Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills

- Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases

- Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

- Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
