Description We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Sales and Use Tax Specialist in New Brighton, Minnesota. In this role, you will be responsible for sales tax and multi-state net profit tax returns, as well as building macros in Excel. You will also have the opportunity to develop new methods for reconciliations and contribute to the overall improvement of our accounting operations in the service industry.
Responsibilities: • Handle sales tax duties, including filing and reconciliations • Prepare and file multi-state net profit tax returns • Utilize Excel to build macros for improved efficiency • Participate in complex projects involving macros within macros • Contribute to the streamlining of accounting processes for multiple companies • Propose and implement new methods for performing reconciliations • Coordinate with the tech team to resolve issues related to Access • Collaborate with team members on various tasks to ensure smooth operations • Manage a considerable amount of paper returns for net profit • Divide time effectively between sales tax filing and net profit tax returns
Skills: • Proficient in Sales Tax and Vertex Sales & Use Tax • Experience with Access and Excel, particularly in building macros • Strong understanding of multi-state tax regulations • Excellent time management and organizational skills • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently when necessary
Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field • Prior experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar position • Proficiency in Sales Tax and Vertex Sales & Use Tax • Strong understanding of general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process • Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures • Hands-on experience with accounting software • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Must be legally authorized to work in the country.
